Donna provides the training framework, teaches you both the mechanical training skills and theory you need to train your dog, starts with foundation skills and builds reliable public access behavior and service dog tasks.
Donna has a special knack with people with autism. She knows how to break down the behaviors so both the human and dog succeed and is flexible in her approach with both human and dog. Each person is different and so is the teaching.
Students must be able to travel to Nanaimo with their dog for at least one hour session once a month and talk on the phone or by webcam (audio or audio and video). They need to be willing to learn how to video tape themselves and upload videos.
The program uses a combination of online classes, in person meetings, webcam or phone meetings and video taping training.
The techniques she teaches are science-based, ethical and family-friendly. Physical strength is not needed to train a service dog.
